Eleven Latvian companies are representing Latvia in the international transport and logistics trade fair which is under way in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the Latvian Transport Ministry informed LETA.

The Latvian participants of the TransUzbekistan 2017 fair are Riga International Airport, Liepaja Special Economic Zone, Riga and Ventspils ports, the state-owned railway company Latvijas Dzelzcels, A&A Logistic, Schenker, Quinto Logistics, Inflot, Sigis and Overseas Logistics Management.

The Transport Ministry's deputy state secretary, Uldis Reimanis, also participates in the trade fair. He said that Uzbekistan was an important partner to Latvia in trade and logistics in Central Asia. Transport cooperation between the two countries pursues the same goal - to become an important link in the transit corridor between Europe and Asia.

Reimanis noted that the Riga airport was participating in the TransUzbekistan 2017 fair for the first time. There are regular flights between Riga and Tashkent facilitating tourism and business growth, he said, adding that there was potential for cooperation in air freight, considering experience accumulated by the Riga and Navoi international airports.

During his working visit to Uzbekistan the Latvian Transport Ministry representative will have several bilateral meetings, including with Uzbek Foreign Trade Minister Elyor Ganiyev and representatives of Uzbekistan Airways, Navoi international airport and Korean Airways.

TransUzbekistan 2017 transport and logistics trade fair is taking place in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, from November 15 to November 17.
