"Expo 2015" limited partnership in Latvia may have to pay back misspent money

BC, Riga, 26.01.2015.Print version
"Expo 2015" limited partnership may have to pay back the money it has been paid for the development of the Latvian pavilion at the "World Expo 2015" fair in Milan, Economy Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers) told the press representatives on January 23rd, reports LETA.

The Economy Ministry signed a EUR 3.3 million agreement with "Expo 2015" on the production of the Latvian pavilion.

The minister said today that it is unclear how the EUR 800,000, paid to the partnership so far, was spent. For this reason, the minister has ordered experts to analyze the "Expo 2015" costs. She added that the Economy Ministry has no information on the agreements and prices the partnership has signed.

The minister admitted that it will be difficult to review agreements on creative services. "Creative things are difficult to assess. If something seems huge and inflated at first, it may turn out to be less extreme after a review. However, the first impression [about "Expo 2015" agreements] is that they have been spending way too much. The current result is incomparable with the amount of money actually spent so far. If these sums are not in line with what job has been done, we will seek compensation according to the law. This will be a complicated process, but we hope to solve everything within in a month," Reizniece-Ozola emphasized.

The minister said that activities of the Economy Ministry's officials in charge of the Latvian pavilion at "World Expo" fair will be assessed as well.
