At the end of the week, the Cabinet of Ministers has announced to review the "updated, overall" draft government budget for 2015. In drawing up the budget, the ministers decided that the deficit cannot be greater than 1% of GDP, reports BC the Latvian Institute.

Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma was hopeful to state that the government could confirm the 2015 national budget this weekend. "The Finance Ministry will prepare calculations, while the government will review several matters concerning teachers' salaries, demographics, etc. I see no reason why the budget should not be confirmed on Saturday," Straujuma stressed.

She also forecasted that after the budget is confirmed by the government, it could be handed over to Saeima before December 10, 2014.

The ruling coalition discussed several proposals in connection with the 2015 budget on November 22nd. Straujuma confirmed that the government is aiming in the right direction.

The Cabinet plans to forward the fine-tuned General Government Budget Plan to the European Commission November 26.
