Estonia froze assets of mayor of separatist Sevastopol

Estonia has in connection with the events in the Crimea implemented international financial sanctions against two companies belonging to Aleksey Chalyi, who became the mayor of Sevastopol, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Estonian Police Board spokesman Kaarel Kuusk said that the corporate persons against which the sanctions have been implemented according to European Council decree 269/2014 are AS Tavrida Electric Export (registered in Estonia) and Tavrida Electric Holding AG (registered in Switzerland) and they are both under Chalyi's control.

 

"Implementing the financial sanctions means that the financial means and economic resources of the persons and persons under their control are frozen," said Kuusk.

 

Tavrida Electric Export is founded in 2003 and sells industrial electronics in Tallinn.

 

Chalyi told Wall Street Journal that according to the European Council decision, his assets were among those to be frozen, but only Estonia has made real steps in this.
