More than one million euro coin starter kits to reach Lithuania

Prior to the euro adoption the Bank of Lithuania will distribute Lithuanian euro coin starter kits for nominal value. Value of one euro coin starter kit designated for public will be EUR 11.59 or LTL 40. It will consist of 23 coins, informs LETA/ELTA.

"No later than one month prior to the euro adoption, residents will be able to learn about the new Lithuanian euro coins up close. While by obtaining special sets traders will ensure that they will not run out of small coins for change in the first days after the euro adoption," says Marius Jurgilas, Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.

 

The kit for residents will feature two coins of 5 euro cents, three coins each of 1, 2, 10, 20 and 50 euro cents as well as 1 and 2 euro coins.

 

A total of 900 thousand such kits will be produced. Euro coin starter kits for residents are expected to be sold from 1 December at the cash offices of the Bank of Lithuania, in commercial banks and in Lithuania Post branches.

 

Meanwhile, there will be two kinds of starter kits for traders. 60 thousand smaller sets will be available. The smaller set will consist of 320 euro coins valued at EUR 111 or LTL 383.26.

 

Whereas, the larger set will consist of 600 coins with a total nominal value of EUR 200 or LTL 690.56. There will be 50 thousand larger sets produced.

 

Supply of euro banknotes, coins and euro coin starter kits to the trading companies will begin one month prior the euro adoption through commercial banks.

 

Lithuania expects to adopt the euro on 1 January 2015.
