Riigikogu approves of new Eesti Pank council

The Estonian Riigikogu approved on Tuesday, with 70 for votes, the new council of the Estonian central bank Eesti Pank, submitted by council chairman Mart Laar, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Besides Laar, the Eesti Pank council members for the next five years are Kalev Kallo, Kaie Kerem, Enn Listra, Rein Minka, Jaanus Tamkivi, Liina Tõnisson and Urmas Varblane. The new names submitted by Laar are doctor of economic sciences Kaie Kerem, former Eesti Pank deputy president Rein Minka and Riigikogu faction chairman Jaanus Tamkivi.

 

Tõnis Palts (IRL), Valdo Randpere (Reform Party) and Tartu University expert Irene Kull thus leave the council members posts.

 

Under the Eesti Pank Act the Riigikogu appoints the members of the council of Eesti Pank for a term of five years at the proposal of the chairman of the council. The authority of the current council of Eesti Pank ended on 17 February this year. Mart Laar is chairman of the Eesti Pank council until 12 June 2018.
