Progress has been made in regard to Latvia's priorities in the European Union's multi-annual budget talks, the Saeima's European Affairs Committee came to the conclusion after hearing a report from the Foreign Ministry.

The committee's chairwoman Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica (Reform Party) pointed out that Latvia's efforts in EU budget talks are starting to show its first results. She explained that Latvia has a good chance of retaining cohesion financing at the current level, writes LETA.

Kalnina-Lukasevica also said that Latvia's concerns in regard to fairer direct payments to farmers have also been heard. She said that taking into account that the EU's multi-annual budget for 2014-2020 will be passed by the end of this year, Latvia must continue to actively pursue its interests and express its point of view.
