Estonia's Tax and Customs Board to use smaller office space

Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 15.05.2012.Print version
The Tax and Customs Board of Estonia plans to cut its office space by 35% by June 2012 due to dismissal of 120 employees, the Estonian national broadcasting corporation ERR reports.

Since 2003, the agency has decreased the number of employees by 37%, or from 2,450 to 1,550 people, writes LETA.

A major move will take place next year, when a new building will be finished on Lõõtsa street, where all of the agency's Tallinn departments will be located.

The agency's deputy director, Timo Riismaa, said the changes are partly due to infrequent visitations at service centers. With Estonia's tax system having gone entirely online, only ten percent of taxpayers visit the service centers.

As reported, Estonian Tax and Customs Board collected 368.1 million euros in taxes and duties in April; in the first four months of the year; the state budget has collected 30.6 percent of the revenue planned for the year in the 2012 state budget.

The tax collection was by 9.9% higher than in April 2011, and 11.1% percent higher than in the first four months of 2011.
