Parties and independent candidates who paid a state due to compete at the Riigikogu elections but were not elected to the parliament will be deprived of their payment and the state budget will thus get an extra income of over 1150,000 EUR, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

The size of the due was at the elections this time two-time minimum monthly wage or 556 EUR. The payment is refunded if the candidate is elected to parliament or gets votes amounting to at least a half of simple quota in their election district or if the candidates of one party get at least 5% of the votes in the whole state.

The due will not be refunded to Russian Party in Estonia (16 candidates), Independence Party (16) and People’s Union (88). Among the 122 candidates of the Greens party, only Eerik-Niiles Kross will be refunded the due as he received more than a half of the simple quota of votes. Among 32 independent candidates, Leo Kunnas is the only one to get the refund for the same reason.

Thus the due will not be refunded for 272 candidates, yielding a sum of 151,232 EUR which goes to state budget.
