BC, Tallinn, 21.01.2020.Print version
A total of 893,000 euros was paid in excise duty on tobacco-free snus in Estonia in 2019, the Tax and Customs Board said LETA/BNS.
Tobacco-free nicotine pouches are defined as solid tobacco substitute. Starting from Jan. 1, 2019, the rate of excise duty on solid tobacco substitute is 82.99 euros per kilogram.
The tax authority noted that classical snus, which contains nicotine and tobacco, remains banned in Estonia. It added that tobacco-free nicotine pouches were permitted in Estonia also earlier, but importers and retailers only recently discovered this for themselves.
