The Government of Lithuania should allocate funds to several specific directions, where investments could create high value added and not to distribute for many programmes in small sums. It was concluded by Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, Education Minister Gintaras Steponavicius, Economy Minister Dainius Kreivys, representatives of science and business communities taking part in programmes of valleys at a sitting dedicated to integrated science, studies and development of business valleys and innovation activities.

During the meeting, participants stressed the inefficiency of the current regulations establishing that the funds allocated to science and innovations were to be distributed for many programs in rather small sums instead of the concentration on possible directions of breakthrough. In the opinion of Kubilius, a clever decision must be made that there would be enough funding for the potentially promising researches carried out in various valleys as well as for several concentrated directions of breakthrough, which would become Lithuania's exceptional contribution to the development of the world's science and economy, writes ELTA.

Upon the proposal of the prime minister, the activities of the integrated science, studies and business centres as well as possibilities for their expansion will be presented in the Government in the nearest future.

The programmes of integrated science, studies and business are mostly financed from the structural funds of the European Union.
