Auditor general: tax uncertainty to continue also in the future in Latvia

BC, Riga, 04.10.2017.Print version
Tax uncertainty will continue in Latvia also in the future, Auditor General Elita Krumina said today at a news conference on the State Audit Office’s report on 2016 budget performance, cites LETA.

Krumina said that the State Audit Office has been calling for a coherent and predictable tax policy for quite a long time already.

The chief auditor said that the tax reform worked out by the Finance Ministry was a step in the right direction, but that some of the related legislation passed by Saeima contravened the reform’s original objectives.

Krumina said that the Finance Ministry had promised not to raise social security contributions, for instance, but as a result of the parliaments’ decisions, the social tax rates will rise for employers and employees alike. The promise to scrap the so-called solidarity tax on high salaries has not been kept either, the auditor general noted.

“Tax uncertainty will continue also in the future,” Krumina concluded.
