The Lithuanian Crime Investigation Service (FNTT) is conducting a probe into an illegal attempt to obtain nearly 4 million euros in support from the European Union (EU) and the Lithuanian budget for 11 projects, informs LETA/BNS.

The Agency was investigating operations of 68 Lithuanian and foreign companies, the FNTT said in a press release, adding that more than 40 searches had already been carried out and suspicions had been brought against eight natural persons. One of the suspects was found to hold a counterfeit ID of an FNTT officer.

According to the sources of news portal 15min.lt, the companies searched included Pirmoji Galimybe (formerly known as Bionovus), which is part of Icor Group. Also involved in the probe is the company Birzu Zemtiekimas, a company chaired by Viktoras Rinkevicius, current deputy chairman of the Lithuanian Peasant and Green Union, or LZVS.
