The size of the Estonian contribution to the three-billion-euro fund agreed by EU leaders to help Turkey cope with the inflow of migrants is approximately 3.5 million euros, it appears from a Commission document obtained by the Financial Times. Latvia would pay 4.4 million euros, and Lithuania 6.5 million euros, reports LETA/BNS.

At a summit of EU leaders in Malta, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said the EU's executive arm would offer 500 million euros to Turkey and urged member states to come up with a further 2.5 billion euros to help Turkey cope with millions of asylum seekers on its soil, most of them from war-torn Syria.

According to a breakdown published by the Financial Times, the amount expected from Estonia is 0.14% of the total or 3.49 million euros, compared with 534.4 million euros to be paid by Germany. France would pay 386.5 million euros, Italy 281.1 million euros, Latvia 4.4 million euros, Lithuania 6.5 million euros and Finland 35.5 million euros into the fund.

The money would be spent to upgrade the facilities of the refugee camps in Turkey and improve their supply, among other things.

The leaders from the 28-nation EU also announced plans for a summit in Brussels with Turkey by the end of the year. Besides the potential incentives for Turkey include a visa waiver for Turkish nationals and revitalizing Turkey's EU accession process.
