Rõivas considers it very important that the Estonian Tax and Customs Board works towards being a good partner for both the public and private sector.

“The work of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board directly affects the general economic environment – by facilitating fair competition and creating the simplest environment that involves as little bureaucracy as possible for collecting taxes,” said Rõivas and added that partnership with the entrepreneurs is very important in achieving this.

The Prime Minister also noted that the Estonian Tax and Customs Board has done a good job by virtue of the fact that the OECD considers Estonia to be the most effective country in the field of tax collection. According to the Prime Minister, Estonia’s success in tax collection lies in convenient IT solutions and the simplicity of the tax system. “The more user-friendly the payment of taxes is made, the better the tax receipt,” said Rõivas and added that there is still a need to make strides in that direction.

According to Rõivas, the results so far indicate that the declaration of 1,000 Euro invoices, which took effect last November, has been very successful – it has increased fair competition between enterprises and decreased tax fraud.

In April, the Estonian Tax and Customs Board collected taxes in the amount of 483.2 million euros, which is 10.2% more when compared with the same period last year. In the first four months, the amount of all taxes received has been higher than what is planned in the government budget. Within four months, 31.2% of the taxes planned for this year’s government budget has been collected.
