Latvian government approves increasing 2015 budget spending by more than EUR 1 mln

During an extraordinary meeting today, the government in Latvia approved a number of proposals submitted by Saeima groups to amend the 2015 state budget draft, as a result, the budget's spending will increase by more than EUR 1 million, reports LETA.

The funds were requested from the budget's emergency funds, Finance Minister Janis Reirs (Unity) told reporters after the government's meeting, adding that the Finance Ministry is yet to calculate the total amount by which budget spending would increase in 2015.

 

Reirs did not mention what specific proposals were supported today, but he did say that one or two proposals submitted by the opposition were also approved.

 

Whereas Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma (Unity) said she hoped that Saeima would pass the budget in the final reading on December 17.

 

As reported, about 460 proposals have been submitted for the next year's budget and the related bills.

 

Saeima approved the 2015 budget draft, mid-term budget framework, as well as 19 related bills in the first reading on December 11. Saeima plans to confirm the budget draft in the final reading on December 17.

 

According to the budget project, revenue is expected at around EUR 7.253 billion, while expenditure at EUR 7.471 billion. Compared to 2014, consolidated budget revenue has increased by EUR 208.6 million, while expenditures by EUR 283.3 million.
