BC, Vilnius, 02.12.2014.Print version
According to Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, companies related to Russian capital that are participating in Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant decommissioning project are operating lawfully. Nonetheless they are being monitored by Lithuanian law enforcement agencies, reports LETA/ELTA.

After the media announced that Russian companies are attempting to purchase enterprises responsible for decommissioning of the power plant, Butkevicius told the national radio that he obligated the energy minister to clarify the situation.

"I have instructed the minister of energy and a report has been prepared clearly stating that for the implementation of the project contractors can hire companies with which Ignalina NPP has no contractual obligation. All contractors or sub-contractors engaged in decommissioning of the power plant must meet and do meet legal requirements," the prime minister told the national radio LRT.

Butkevicius added that information about the object is always received from law enforcement agencies.

"They in detail describe who is doing what but they have not mentioned any contradictions to Lithuanian laws," said Butkevicius.

The media has reported that a Russian company is attempting to acquire Vilstata, a subcontractor of the largest Ignalina NPP decommissioning contractor Nukem Technologies.
