Minimum difference in prices from different electricity retailers in Latvia

BC, Riga, 27.10.2014.Print version
The differences in electricity prices for households offered by different retailers are minimal, as the business portal Nozare.lv found out.

Starting January 1, 2015, electricity for households will be sold in an open market. Households must choose their retailer by December 15. According to information available on Sadales tikls website, a total of six companies have expressed their readiness to sell electricity to households – Latvenergo, BCG Riga, Baltcom TV, 220 Energija, Starfit Energy, and Win Baltic, writes LETA.

However, only three have published specific prices and offers – Latvenergo, Baltcom TV, and Win Baltic.

Latvenergo's "Elektrum" product line includes six offers. "Elektrum economic" price is EUR 0.167 per kWh, "Elektrum universal" – EUR 0.169% per kWh, "Elektrum classic" – EUR 0.169% per kWh, "Elektrum dynamic" price will depend on the price of electricity at the "Nord Pool Spot" electricity exchange, "Elektrum expedient 200+" – EUR 1.1635% per kWh (of which EUR 1 is the monthly fee), and "Elektrum expedient 600+" – EUR 3.16% per kWh (including a monthly fee of EUR 3).

Information provided by Latvenergo indicates that the most popular product at the moment is "Elektrum universal", followed by "Elektrum expedient 200+".

"Win Baltic" offers two tariff plans – the universal tariff plan under which electricity will be supplied for EUR 0.165 per kWh, and the alternative plan where the tariff will be pegged to the average electricity price for Latvia at the "Nord Pool Spot" electricity exchange.

Finally, Baltcom TV is still working on its offer for households, which could be made public on November 1, but the company already offers residents to sign up for "sets" of several services, including television, Internet and other services combined with electricity supply, with the prices ranging from EUR 21.5 to EUR 37.51 a month.
