Lithuanian heat producers will be refunded for gas overpayment in two years

Natural gas import price difference will be compensated to non-household consumers in two years in Lithuania, starting from 2015, reports LETA/ELTA.

"The Government has confirmed the principle that the rebate will be distributed within a two-year period. The most beneficial decision to our consumers was taken," Minister of Energy Rokas Masiulis told the media after the Government's sitting on Monday.

According to him, the decision to distribute the discount for gas in a couple of years is the wisest, because in the future gas prices or other circumstances may change.

The rebate for gas will be deducted of the heating cost. Nonetheless, it is still unclear how the money will be distributed to certain heat producers. The rules will have to be prepared by AB Lietuvos Dujos in the near future.

AB Lietuvos Dujos received a 20.95% discount on natural gas import price since 1 January 2013. However, Lietuvos Dujos reduced gas price for non-household consumers after 1 May 2014.
