Estonian PM: LNG project will be worked on further

BC, Tallinn, 03.10.2014.Print version
Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas said that disconnecting Estonia's gas network from that of Russia and the creation of alternative sources of supply will remain important goals, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

"With regard to the LNG terminal, at the moment there is no agreement between companies of Estonia and Finland. Does this mean that the LNG terminal will certainly not come? I do not think so. I think there is still a way to build the LNG terminal in our region," Rõivas said.

The Prime Minister's position is that Estonia is the best place for this purpose, also because the preparations have progressed much farther here than in Finland. "However, we must also respect the Finns' view that Finland is the best place for it," he said.

The European Commission decided at a meeting in Tallinn this week not to support financially Alexela Energia and Finnish energy company Gasum's joint projects for building liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals along the Gulf of Finland; both companies announced that they will continue with the terminal building plan, searching for other solutions.
