Lithuania would like to acquire shares of Latvijas Gaze

BC, Vilnius, 08.09.2014.Print version
On the closing day of the submission of applications, an energy company group from Lithuania, most likely UAB Lietuvos Energija (Lithuanian Energy), submitted a non-binding application to acquire from the German concern E.On Ruhrgas International 47.23% of the Latvian national gas company Latvijas Gaze shares, a business daily Verslo Zinios website vz.lt has written.

The Latvian media has called the officially unnamed buyer a competitor of the Latvian Government, which submitted a similar proposal last week. It was said that "the company is related to the liquefied natural gas terminal and partially owned by the Lithuanian state", cites LETA/ELTA.

It was speculated that the buyer may be AB Klaipedos Nafta (Klaipeda Oil), the builder and operator of the liquefied natural gas terminal, or UAB Litgas, a buyer of 540 million cubic metres of gas needed for the LNG terminal. However, this proved not to be the case.

Meanwhile, Director General and Chairman of the Board Dainius Misiunas told the daily Verslo Zinios, that the company does not comment unofficial information.
