Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy, Jovita Neliupsiene, said that Democratic Senator Bill Nelson, member of the Committees on Armed Services, Budget, Commerce and Finance, welcomed the idea of shale gas import from the United States.

In September, during the autumn session, the US Congress will consider providing USD 1 billion financial support to augment defensive capabilities in Europe. The US will also decide on shale gas export to Europe.

According to the senator, various options are being considered, how to determine the region shale gas will be exported to or whether to export only to NATO countries.

Lithuania-US cooperation in military and energy security areas, as well as enhancement of bilateral trade relations were also addressed.

Talking about military cooperation, the presidential advisor once again highlighted the importance of the deployment of US units in the Baltic States and Poland.

"The unit is headed by chief commander of NATO forces, I think it is one of the main measures contributing to security in Lithuania and the whole region. The list of similar measures will be discussed and adopted in NATO summit in Wales," said the advisor.

Neliupsiene assured that the US and Lithuania's positions match regarding regional security and the situation in Ukraine. She added that the US was one of the first that decided to strengthen Air Policing mission and ensure that rotational unit would be based in the Baltic States.
