Achema hopes to get discount from Gazprom

Petras Vaida, BC, Vilnius, 15.07.2014.Print version
Company Achema, the biggest gas consumer in Lithuania, hopes to make a deal with Russian gas company Gazprom on a discount for natural gas but it has denied that negotiations are hampered by frequent changes in the group's leadership, reports LETA/ELTA, referring to Lietuvos rytas.

Recently Jonava-based fertiliser manufacturer announced that it would stop some of its production due to too expensive gas. Now the company says the stoppage was planned in advance.

Who is to blame that Achema has been the only one of Lithuanian companies purchasing Russian gas which has not struck a deal with Gazprom on the slightest of discounts?

The daily Lietuvos Rytas interviewed Deputy Chairman of the Board of Achema Group, Kasparas Jurgelionis. "Lithuania has already secured a concession for gas, in other words it has achieved European pricing. Thus I think we will achieve it too. Sooner or later," said Jurgelionis.
