On Thursday, Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius participated in the monthly meeting of the commission on the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal project implementation, reports LETA/ELTA.

According to the prime minister, the project is nearing completion, thus the site is being visited more often to make sure the work runs smoothly.

Progress on the construction of the quay and gas pipeline was discussed at the meeting. Rokas Masiulis, head of Klaipedos Nafta, a company which is carrying out the project, informed the prime minister about technical details and completed tasks. In July work will commence on the installation of main equipment on the service platform.

"I was informed that Klaipedos Nafta is seeking to boost construction efficiency. The contractors were asked to work three shifts and assign more employees for the project to be completed in time. All measures have to be employed to prevent any possible risks. Now everything is being done to complete the terminal in time," Butkevicius said.

The LNG terminal project has to be finished by end of 2014.
