Petras Vaida, BC, Vilnius, 21.05.2013.Print version
In the future Lithuania's apartments may be heated using shale gas imported from the US. Even President Dalia Grybauskaite thinks so, informs LETA/ELTA, referring to Lietuvos rytas.

However, energy experts warn that Americans will decide everything on their won. Besides our dwarf market may not be even interesting to them. Currently, there are intense disputes going on shale gas exploration in Lithuania. It is obvious, that results may not come quickly. Americans intend to export noticeably cheaper shale gas to the United Kingdom and some other countries. Lithuania who is dependent on Russian company Gazprom also would like to import it from a future liquefied natural gas terminal. But will it succeed?

"If Americans export gas to the UK and other European countries, it will not be difficult to bring it to Klaipeda terminal. It would not make any difference. Everything will depend on their own decision", said Arvydas Galinis, Scientist at Lithuanian Energy Institute, Laboratory of Energy Systems Research. However, if Americans will bring tankers it will definitely not change gas prices in the continent. Cheap gas from the US – a dream or reality?
