Balticconnector gas pipe land line gets a green light in Estonia

The North Estonian Kiili parish was the first to issue the construction permit that enables to start the construction of the land line part of the Balticconnector, a gas pipeline connecting Estonian and Finnish gas networks, LETA/Delfi reports.

The land line part of the Balticconnector passes through 6 municipalities in Estonia. The design work of the 47 km section will be completed by the start of the summer. Existence of the project enables to start building the section as soon as the European Commission makes a decision on connecting the project.

In December last year, Finnish gas network operator OY Gasum and Estonian gas network operator AS EG Võrguteenus agreed on the schedule of work for building Balticconnector.

Balticconnector is a 80 km long undersea gas pipeline that connects via Paldiski in Estonia and Inkoo in Finland the Estonian and Finnish gas networks and will create an alternative gas supply source for Estonian consumers. The undersea route of the pipeline costs around 100 million euros.
