Referendum on Visaginas NPP to cost nearly EUR 0.56 mln

Wednesday Lithuania's Government agreed to give LTL 2 million (EUR 0.579 million) to organise a referendum on the construction of the Visaginas nuclear power plant (NPP).

Finance Minister Ingrida Simonyte says that the necessary funding was evaluated together with the Chief Electoral Commission (VRK). She says that the referendum would have required much more funding if there was not a law on holding it together with parliamentary elections this October, writes LETA/ELTA.

"Organising a referendum like this separately would have cost nearly twice as now," she said after the Government's sitting today.

As reported, on October 14, a consultative (advisory) referendum on the construction of the Visaginas NPP will be held alongside parliamentary elections.
