Hitachi fails to answer important questions on Visaginas NPP

Member of Parliament and Coordinator of the referendum on a new nuclear power plant construction Vidmantas Ziemelis regrets that the company Hitachi has not yet responded to the question how much reactors of the Visaginas nuclear power plant (NPP) and its generated electricity would cost.

Also Hitachi failed to disclose when safety checks based on the European Union requirements will be done and what financial responsibility Hitachi is going to assume, writes LETA/ELTA.

A month ago Ziemelis on behalf of the Steering Group of the Seimas sent a letter to Hitachi's management inviting for a constructive communication with the initiators of referendum asking to present objective information to Lithuanian people regarding this project.

"Hitachi as well as representatives of the Government are reluctant to disclose the key economic and financial indicators because they would show that once the uncompetitive Visaginas NPP is built it would be necessary to significantly raise the price of electricity and to allocate billions of grants and tie to the Russian energy monopoly even more," said Leader of Christian Party and former PM Gediminas Vagnorius.
