"This law is a real step towards energy independence. By implementing the LNG terminal project, after 22 years of independence, Lithuania starts developing gas market which will ensure an alternative to expensive natural gas and competitive prices for consumers," Grybauskaite said.
The new law will require building the LNG terminal and developing infrastructure securing effective performance until December, 2014, writes LETA/ELTA.
The LNG terminal is a project of national importance.
The Seimas adopted the law on the LNG terminal on June 12. It was supported by 108 MPs, one MP was against and 9 abstained.
The terminal will be located in the Klaipeda Seaport territory.
