Narva Power Plants workers hold a support strike

Employees of Estonian state-owned energy company Eesti Energia's Narva Elektrijaamad power plant operator subsidiary hold a support strike on Friday, which, however, will be limited to scheduled repairs being cancelled in the company for today, LETA/National Broadcasting reports.

Yesterday, the Viru County Court forbid the trade union of Narva Elektrijaamad to have a strike that would reduce the ordinary production capacity of the power plants.

Narva Elektrijaamad turned to the court to get a legal evaluation on the legality of the strike that was planned for Friday, and in the course of which the workers wanted to reduce the production volume of one of the two power plants. Eesti Energia said that the trade union's plan was illegal since support strike to education workers had become a political strike.

The energy workers strike is in support of the demands of Estonian Trade Unions Confederation that demands that the government withdraw from the Riigikogu the draft law of amending work and collective labour agreements law but also that laws concerning labour relations reached the Riigikogu after being coordinated with the trade unions.
