The Estonians and Lithuanians do not want to admit the obvious: Riga, with its gas pipeline to the underground gas storage facility in Incukalns, which already supplies gas to all Baltic states, is the most suitable place to build a liquefied natural gas terminal, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) said in an interview with the newspaper "Latvijas Avize".

Things are not going well with Latvia's gas supply, since the country still entirely depends on Gazprom, points out the prime minister, informs LETA.

"The Baltic states are unable to agree on the most suitable location for the terminal, which would serve as an alternative to Gazprom supplies. Therefore we have urged the European Commission to carry out a regional research and point at the most suitable location," said Dombrovskis.

"There is a similar situation with the high-speed railroad project Rail Baltica, on which we agreed during the previous meeting of Baltic prime ministers. The project is highly expensive and therefore it is necessary to ensure 85% co-funding from the European Union so we could proceed. Rail Baltica route is also important, if we want to have both passengers and cargo," said the premier.
