The Estonian government approved on Thursday of Estonian renewable energy action plan till 2020 according to which the share of renewable energy will grow by then to at least 25% of all domestic energy consumption, LETA/Postimees Online cites economy and communications ministry.

Economy and communications minister Juhan Parts said that the volume of production of renewable energy has to be increased most in transport and in production of electricity.

“The renewable energy action plan is a road map for the next ten years, to fulfil the obligations Estonia has taken to the European Union,” added Parts.

According to the plan, the share of electricity produced from renewable sources must grow to over 15% of consumption in ten years. Wind electricity capacity should grow from the current 150 MW to around 600 MW by 2020.

In land transport, the aim is to achieve that 10% of the used energy sources would be renewable energy, meaning that in 2020, around 90,000 tonnes of bio-fuels should be used in road transport.
