Kubilius: We will find strategic investor in Visaginas nuclear power plant first and then start digging

Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius did not reveal whether the meeting with U.S. Ambassador Anne Elizabeth Derse on Monday was related to the direct U.S. support of the construction of Visaginas nuclear power plant, however, he assured that all the information on the search of strategic and regional investors and the negotiation process would be available in the short run.

The head of the Government said that the support to Lithuanian key energy projects expressed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was especially important for the implementation of projects that would help to implement energy independence.

"We have chosen a different approach than our neighbors in Kaliningrad and Belarus, who started digging without any agreement - either financial or legal - with strategic investors. They are digging and at the same time looking for strategic investors. We will first of all have to find a strategic investor, make an agreement with him and with regional partners, and only then we will start the construction works," Andrius Kubilius said at the Government meeting on Monday.

Before the meeting, U.S. Ambassador Anna Elizabeth Derse has vowed to cooperate closely at the Lithuanian energy projects.
