Thus Elering and Nord Pool Spot made another important step towards fully integrating the Baltic States electricity markets with the Nordic electricity market by 2013.
Elering’s board chairman Taavi Veskimägi said that launch of this stage completes the preparations for the Estlink price region and creates prerequisites for creating a common Baltic and Nordic states electricity market.
Mikael Lundin said that the necessary additions in Estonian legislation have been made and thus Nord Pool Spot opens a new price region.
The Nord Pool Spot Estlink price region will be opened in Estonia this spring and it is one of the prerequisites for Finnish main grid company Fingrid’s investment decision in the Finnish-Estonian Estlink 2 sea cable.
The parties to the agreement also aim to open a NPS price region in Latvia in 2011 and in Lithuania in 2012.
