President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite states having doubts about the plans to erect a new nuclear power plant in Lithuania, yet she supports the idea of having as diverse energy system as possible.

The head of state also says that Lithuania should mostly aim at making use of alternative energy supplies to ensure energy independence, writes ELTA/LETA.

"Indeed, I still have doubts," Grybauskaite commented on the new nuclear power plant at a news conference on Tuesday. "It is obvious that Lithuania and other Baltic States will not build such a plant. We need an experienced investor with money."

"I am for the Lithuania using diverse energy supplies. It is necessary to do the things Lithuania has not done in 20 years, such as the creation of real energy independence via the development of alternative sources. Any different system suggests a certain level of dependence," Grybauskaite said.

According to the president, Lithuania must create an electricity market as soon as possible.
