BC, Vilnius, 18.09.2020.Print version
Wholesale electricity prices jumped 40 percent on average in the Baltic states in August, mostly affected by restrictions on energy flows, Elektrum Lietuva said LETA/BNS.

Prices averaged 43.32 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh) in Nord Pool's Lithuanian bidding area, 43.41 euros in Latvia and 40.90 euros in Estonia, the independent electricity supplier said.

Hourly prices in the Baltic states ranged from 3.89 to 147.54 euros per MWh, and prices moved up further in the Nordic bidding areas, almost doubling from July.

"Due to SE4 links' restrictions in August, lower flows from Finland and Sweden were recorded. An increase in link capacity and higher energy flows from Belarus and the Kaliningrad region were recorded but they were lower than August, 2019," Martynas Giga, director at Elektrum Lietuva, said.

The Baltic states' total power consumption rose around 3.7% to 2.096 GWh in August.

The three Baltic states' total electricity production went up by 31% month-on-month to 1.033621 terawatt-hours (TWh), covering 64% of the region's needs.
