Electricity generated from renewable energy sources accounted for 71% of the total power output of Latvenergy power utility in January-June this year, which is 22 percentage points more than in the first half of 2019, as Latvenergo representative Ivita Bidere told LETA.

Water inflow in the Daugava River is different every year, said Bidere. At the beginning of this year, water inflow in the Daugava was much higher than usual, while now water inflow has decreased.

Because of the higher water inflow, Daugava power plants of Latvenergo generated 1.804 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of power in January-June, an increase of 58 percent on the first half of 2019.

Overall, electricity generated from renewable energy sources accounted for 71% of the total power output of Latvenergo in January-June, compared to 49% in the first half of 2019.

As reported, Latvenergo Group closed 2019 with EUR 841.6 mln in turnover, up 0.3% against a year before, while the group's profit grew 24.2% on year to EUR 94.4 mln.

Latvenergo Group is one of the leading energy suppliers in the Baltics operating in electricity and thermal energy generation and trade, natural gas trade, electricity distribution services and lease of transmission system assets.
