Wholesale electricity prices rise across Baltics w-o-w - Elektrum Lietuva
Prices in Nord Pool's Lithuanian and Latvian bidding areas averaged 35.85 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh) and stood at 32.91 euros in Estonia on July 13-19, the independent electricity supplier said.
Across the Nord Pool power exchange, the average price jumped by around 36.4% w-o-w to 3.3 euros per MWh.
"Prices in the Nordic countries were last week mostly affected by drier-than-usual weather which led to a decline in the hydro balance in the region," said Arturas Zatulinas, the head of the Business Sales Unit at Elektrum Lietuva
"A 57% decrease in the total wind production in the Nord Pool region last week also added to the price growth," he said.
The Baltic countries' total electricity production grew by 8% w-o-w to 235 gigawatt-hours (GWh), covering 52% of the region's needs.
The three countries' power consumption totaled 450 GWh, rising by 2% to 207 GWh in Lithuania and by 3% to 124 GWh in Latvia, but falling by 6% to 119 GWh in Estonia.
