Ending of emergency situation raises Estonian electricity prices in June

An increase in consumption caused by the ending of the emergency situation raised electricity prices in Estonia in June compared with May, state-owned energy group Eesti Energia said in an energy market overview, write LETA/BNS.

The average price of electricity in Estonia in June was 37.19 euros per megawatt hour, 48.6% higher than in May. The price however was 14.41% lower than in June 2019. 


The balance of Nordic hydro stocks declined by 11.59 terawatt-hours month over month but continued to be above the reference level. The price of carbon emission credits rose 17.59% compared with May to 23.48 euros per ton.


The oil market saw solid rise in June due to increased demand in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. The price of crude grew 25.8% on month to 40.77 US dollars per barrel.


The gas market registered a minor rise in June, while continuing to be on a relatively low level. The average price of natural gas on the Gaspool market rose 3.5% compared with May to 5.18 euros per megawatt-hour. In year-to-year comparison a drop of 52.49% was registered in the price of gas, however.
