Lithuania's rate of energy dependency rose by 1.7 percentage points to 75.8% last year and is still way above the EU average which stood at 55.7% in 2018, the latest figures from Lithuania's statistics office, Statistics Lithuania, show.

Based on preliminary data, the country's general fuel and energy consumption rose 0.2% to 7.76 million tons of oil equivalent last year, with oil and oil products making the largest part of the total fuel and energy consumption with 39.1%, followed by natural gas (24%), renewable energy resources (20.2%), and electricity (10.3%). Coal, peat and other resources made the remaining part of 6.4%.

Electricity demand rose 1.3% to 13.3TWh last year. 70.2% of it was imported and 3.97TWh was produced, up 13% from 2018.

The final energy consumption inched down 0.6%.
