After opening of the Latvian gas market this past spring, 350 consumers have changed their natural gas supplier by August 10, said Public Utilities Commission chairman Rolands Irklis at Energy 2017 conference yesterday, cites LETA.

There are 33 merchants registered as natural gas suppliers in Latvia, majority of them come from Latvia, but there are also companies from Estonia, Lithuania, Germany and Switzerland. At least six merchants have an agreement on gas supplies to at least one consumer.

Irklis said that natural gas price in July was between EUR 17.01 and EUR 20.51 per MWh.

Speaking about regional gar market, Irklis said that regulators of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland have agreed that the Finnish regulator attracts experts that would develop a tariff model for the Baltic-Finnish natural gas market after 2020, when it is planned to launch Balticconnector project that will link Finnish-Estonian natural gas pipelines.

Energy 2017 conference is organized in Riga by business magazine Kapitals.
