BC, Riga, 30.11.2015.Print version
Excise tax on oil products will go up in Latvia in 2016 under legislative amendments passed by Saeima on November 30th, informs LETA.

The excise tax rate on 1,000 liters of unleaded gasoline will be raised from EUR 411.21 to EUR 436. The tax rate on 1,000 liters of diesel fuel will rise from EUR 332.95 to 341, and on 1,000 kilograms of LPG from EUR 161 to EUR 206.

The opposition Regional Alliance of Latvia (LRA) had proposed to raise the excise tax on fuel at an even steeper rate, but the initiative failed to gain Saeima's support. The Regional Alliance of Latvia had come up with the proposal in the context of another initiative, namely, to abolish the vehicle operating tax, which was also rejected.

The latest amendments to the Latvian excise tax law are also increasing the tax on alcohol and smoking tobacco and including electronic cigarettes in the list of excised goods.
