Oil prices stable, but fuel getting more expensive in Lithuania

Petras Vaida, BC, Vilnius, 19.05.2015.Print version
In the last three months of 2015, oil prices have not changed substantially despite short-term fluctuations. Nevertheless Lithuanian drivers say they have to dig deeper into pockets when filling up in petrol stations, reports LETA/ELTA, referring to Vakaro zinios.

Members of Parliament have already appealed to the Government with a proposal to regulate fuel prices, but all they received were formal answers.

In late February 1 litre of A95 petrol cost on average EUR 1.09, but now it costs EUR 1.22, while some petrol stations charge EUR 1.26. Throughout this period petroleum company Orlen Lietuva increased wholesale prices by EUR 0.10 to EUR 1.14.

Fuel sellers often justify the increase of petrol or diesel prices by growing cost of raw materials, excise taxes etc. But the price of a barrel of oil has not increased since mid-February, excise taxes have not increased either, whereas both wholesale and retail prices have soared.
