Eesti Energia also bought gas from Klaipeda LNG terminal

Estonian state-owned energy giant Eesti Energia signed on Tuesday a contract with Lithuanian company Litgas that manages the Klaipeda LNG terminal, on the purchase of 5.8 million cubic meters of gas, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

"The pilot shipments made in December last year confirmed that the gas trading via alternative importers is possible and works," said Eesti Energia Energy Trade Manager Heikko Mäe.

"Given today's regulations and the tense political situation, additional suppliers are certainly important for ensuring the security of gas supply for both us and the gas seller, but also certainly for our gas clients," he added.

For Estonian clients, the agreement that was concluded means an alternative to Russian gas, Eesti Energia said.

Eesti Energia has sold its big commercial clients gas, in addition to electricity, for three years.

Litgas announced yesterday that it has sold to customers in Estonia this year 30 million cubic meters of gas. Alexela-owned Reola Gaas announced yesterday of buying 12 million cubic meters of gas.
