Winergy offices searched in Latvia

BC, Riga, 12.12.2014.Print version
Wind park developer Winergy considers police searches of the company's offices and employees' residences on December 10th night as "revenge" for the company's move to sue the State of Latvia in an international arbitration court, reports LETA.

The Latvian State Television reported that Winergy offices in Riga and Marupe and board member Janis Vanks' private home were searched last night. Vanks confirmed the information, adding he had no idea why the searches were conducted.

Yesterday, Winergy said that the company and its owner were continuing the company's legal protection procedures, and that Winergy would fully honor its obligations to Norvik banka after arrests on the company's assets are lifted.

Winergy informs that is has made all payments to creditors it had to under the legal protection plan, the total amount of the payments is EUR 526,124.16. The company goes on to say that it has fully adhered to all the laws and regulations that apply to the company, including tax payments of more than EUR 130,000 in total. If not for asset arrests that followed Norvik banka's complaint filed with the police, Winergy would have refinanced its obligations and promptly paid all its debts to Norvik banka.

Winergy points out once again that the law enforcement authorities obviously support Norvik banka in the dispute, which is the reason why Windergy had no choice but sue the State of Latvia. The company's owner Indrek Kuivallik also notes that the searches at Winergy are an attempt by the authorities to find a pretext for not lifting the restrictions on the company in January 2015 when the arrest of the company's assets is to be lifted.
