Number of students in Latvia could drop by 5-7% in 2014

The number of students could decrease 5-7% in 2014/2015, according to estimations proposed by the Ministry of Education and Science, informs LETA.

The ministry forecasts that the total number of students in universities and colleges in 2014/2015, could reach about 83,000-85,000. In 2013, the number of students in universities and colleges was 89,633.

 

The number of students who have applied for Master's and Doctor's degrees, will also diminish. The ministry forecasts that the number of Master's students this year, could reach 11,500, while the number of PhD students – 2,300.

 

The Education and Science Ministry's data indicates that the number of students who acquired a degree in 2014, was 21,608, 4,134 of which acquired a Master's degree, and 315 – a Doctor's degree.
