International Physics Olympiad opens in Tallinn

Print versionThe 43rd International Physics Olympiad opened on Monday in Tallinn, bringing almost 400 young physicist from 82 countries to Estonia, Postimees Online reports.

Estonian parliament speaker, astro-physicist Ene Ergma welcomed the participants and said that physics education is the best in the world. "Physics and science are true fun," she said.
Ergma reminded that Estonia submitted an application to organize Olympiad already in 1996. "Already then we were certain that the engine of the 21st century is economy based on science and high-tech. For this, specialists are needed who have a strong education in natural sciences," Ergma said in her welcoming speech.
Young Estonian physicists have brought 2 gold, 6 silver and 12 bronze medals from Olympiads so far, reported LETA.
