President’s charity campaign provides Lithuanian libraries with thousands books

Print versionOn Friday, President Dalia Grybauskaite discussed the results of the Christmas charity campaign Knygu Kaledos (the Christmas of Books) with the partners of the campaign. Approximately, 17 thousand new books have been sent to Lithuania's libraries after the campaign.

The books were donated by country's residents, book publishers, business companies, ambassadors of foreign countries and writers, informs LETA/ELTA.
"The country has learned about the children's dream of reading news books. People's Kindness and willingness to share shows how important are books and how much we can do when we cooperate," Grybauskaite said on Friday.
The campaign, initiated by Grybauskaite and other famous people, spread in the entire country – over a thousand Lithuania's public libraries have organised various events.
The president announced the charity campaign after she received 300 letters from children who were asking to help in providing libraries with new books.
