Over 18,700 first graders to start school in Latvia in 2017

As many as 18,744 first graders will start school in Latvia in 2017, informs LETA, according to the Education and Science Ministry’s data.
There will be in total of 214,414 pupils in grades 1-12 in general schools,
including 38,054 in secondary school grades 10-12.
The number of children involved in preschool education will reach 94,249.
The ministry also said that there will be almost 12,500 children with
special needs, including 5,855 children learning in special educational
establishments.
Also, 8,570 children will attend government-funded vocational schools.
The exact number of students for the academic year 2017/2018 will become
clear in September when schools report information on the number of pupils.
