Lithuania should have up to 5 state universities

The number of state universities in Lithuania has to be cut to no more than five, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said on Wednesday, reports LETA/BNS.

he prime minister and Education and Science Minister Jurgita Petrauskiene briefed journalists on a planned reform of the higher education network.


A study by the research and higher education monitoring and analysis center MOSTA recommends leaving three to five universities, as well as one or two arts academies and the military academy, in the country by 2025.


Lithuania currently has 14 state universities.
